Evaluation - Question 2 - How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

These products work well together as a promotional package as they clearly represent and promote the band the ‘Bless You Boys’ and their song ‘Molly and the Dressmaker’. There is a key theme running through the products and they share similar elements and images. If someone was to see each of these items separately, I believe that they would instantly associate them with each other, because of the colours and the images that have strategically been placed on them. There is a clear house style running through the promotional package items, created and identified by the font style, font and image colours and similar images found in and on them.

Here is a deconstruction of both the magazine advert and the digipak, showing how the relate to each other and why they have been produced in such a way:

All of these promotional items would be exhibited in traditional ways using methods used by real bands to distribute their products. For example; the magazine advert would be found in a magazine that would capture the eye and attention of the target audience such as Kerrang. Possibly on the inside cover of the magazine or on a double-spread page in order to effectively capture the target audience’s interest.

As well as using traditional methods of exhibiting distributing these products, I would use newer electronic and digital ways in an attempt to reach a yet greater audience. The reasons for this are simple; most younger people now days buy music or download it off the internet. So using alternatives like iTunes, Spotify and Amazon to sell the songs, promo and digipak would reach the young population that still listen to this type of music (rock/alternative/indie).

Using the internet to purchase music is becoming an increasingly more popular habit, as it is a lot more convenient than travelling to a shop or music store and buying the hard-copy of the CD.

Often now, special features are enclosed with CD's and digipak's as bonus or exclusive content. Supplying this over the internet as digital copies reduces the amount of resources that would be needed to physically make these features.
