Evaluation - Question 4 - How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Unsigned.com

To find the band we would eventually use for our promo and promotional package, we used a website that allows for the distribution of bands and their music without worrying about copyright issues, which was ideal for us. The website, www.unsigned.com, allowed us to successfully find all the information we would need to contact the band and ask permission to upload the final product to YouTube and such.

Facebook

We used Facebook to gain some audience feedback on our promo, although we found it was not as useful as asking people in-person. We found that most people would decide to watch the promo and not bother with commenting or giving any form of feedback.
The only real advantage to using Facebook was that we were able to post the promo on the band’s Facebook page and hope for some useful feedback, which wasn't presented to us.

Apple Macs

We used the Apple Macs for almost everything to do with making the music promo, right from choosing what shots to use, to exporting the promo to CD.

We used iMovie on the Macs to produce the actual promo and Final Cut Express to add colour changing effect; like saturation to the promo after it had been complied on iMovie.

Photoshop

Photoshop was used to produce the magazine advert and digipak, utilizing its features to create beautiful pieces of art that eventually made its way onto the digipak covers and edited for the advert.

YouTube

My group and I used YouTube as a means of researching music videos of the alternative/indie genre. Using its search bar, we were able to refine our research and pick out the most influential promos that we felt related to ours and to what we wanted ours to be similar to.

It also allowed us to exhibit our music promo and gather feedback from people over the internet. People were able to comment and like the promo, from which we were able to gather some useful feedback.

This feedback has helped us to decide and discuss the changes we could make to our promo and also whether or not the promo has been effective and successful.
